The story of Carrao Caffé

The actual success story began at the end of the 19th century.

1896: Mr. Gaetano Carraro first started selling green coffee beans for roasting in his small shop in Schio, an Italian region in Veneto.

1927: His son Mario started roasting himself. The previously sold green coffee was now roasted and packed by hand. In the official historiography, the actual success story of the Carraro family business began at this time. The foundation stone for industrial development was laid.

1962: Huge expansion of the Carraro production facility and move to Trinità, a municipality in the Italian province of Cuneo in the Piedmont region. Caffè Carraro now roasts and blends around 120 tons of coffee annually and becomes an Italian giant on the coffee market.

2017: The linear and consistent success brought a yield of over 75 million tons of coffee by 2017. In the meantime, Carraro has grown into an international player and supplies coffee lovers in many countries around the world. Trading on the world stage is part of Carraro's day-to-day business.

A mix of selected growing areas, exquisite raw beans and experienced local farmers promises perfection par excellence. Precisely these virtues have made Carraro successful.

Caring for the raw beans

Thanks to the intensive care and monitoring, the raw bean plants flower for many years. About half a year after the flowering period, the raw beans are ready to be harvested. With coffee plants, determining the perfect degree of ripeness is an ongoing task. The better the degree of maturity, the higher the quality of the mixtures. The higher the quality of the raw bean mixture, the more complex the coveted coffee aroma at the end.
The ripe red cherries are hand picked by Carraro. The stripping process is traditionally done by hand or with special machines. The grapes are gently and gently stripped from the plants.

Carraro coffee - gentle roasting process

Modern roasting processes are based on heat by air currents (convection). With this technique, Carraro Caffé ensures that the beans are roasted evenly, both inside and out. Carraro only uses slow heat cycle roasters. Perfect for the complex aroma of the coffee beans. After the gentle roasting process, the coffee continues to mature in coffee silos for a few days. At Carraro we are talking about over 150 tons of coffee beans that mature in dozens of silos. Then the master tasters come into action, who ensure exclusive taste and the best quality.
